About Us

We are Dan and Jen Sommer.  We were called to the mission field with Apex Missions, a ministry of ReachStudents in the EFCA in 2019.  

I (Dan) serve as the Apex Director for NextGen Missions mobilizing high school and college students into the Great Commission, equipping students to take steps toward life on mission, and inviting students to prayerfully consider God's call on their lives while providing next steps of exploration and discernment. 

We would appreciate your prayerful consideration as to whether God might be calling you as a church or individual to partner with us in prayer and/or financially.  Join us in preparing and sending the next generation of missionaries, pastors, and disciple-makers. As a result of our ministry with Apex Missions we trust (and are experiencing) God to sustain and expand world missions, to expand the reach of the gospel, and to grow the ministries of ReachGlobal and the EFCA. 

Here’s a little of our history: Jen and I had the joy of serving God as a Pastor of Student Ministries (Dan) at EFCA churches for over 25 years. Most recently we served at The Chapel EFC in St. Joseph, MI. It has been humbling and awe-inspiring to be used by God in the lives of people. More than that, we have been able to experience God working in our lives in many amazing ways. There have been many times that we have seen God work and lead where we were amazed to be a part of what He was doing!

Our heart and calling has always been to serve with students. One of our greatest joys has been to lead students to serve God through missions. God has now called us to develop student in and through missions.  As the Apex Director of NextGen Missions I lead and oversee a team of 9 leaders working together to mobilize high school and college while also taking the lead role in building US based and international based missions opportunities for high school students to experience and explore missions.  Part of our heart and vision is to be a tool and resource that God uses to sustain AND expand world missions in the next generation.  We are excited that God continues to allowed us to connect with and prepare to send hundreds of high school students and dozens of college students to the short term mission field every year.  We are also hugely thankful and excited that God has used Apex Missions to mobilize dozens of full-time vocational missionaries to the mission field over the last few years (Luke 10:2). 

Apex is the high school and college missions organization for the Evangelical Free Church of America. Apex exists to mobilize the emerging generation of gospel influencers who take the gospel from here to everywhere. 

As we go into all the world with the next generation, we are looking for those that God might be calling to be part of our team as senders. Would you prayerfully consider whether God might be calling you and/or your church to be a ministry partner with us through monthly prayer and/or financial support?  

Colossians 1:6 “This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives ...” This is the ministry we strongly believe God has called us to.  The same good news that has come to all of us will continue to go out all over the world as we enable, equip, mobilize, and send the next generation.
